I’ve seen so many posts this January about setting goals, being positive, positive mindset and more.
My expertise is sales mindset…I know this stuff.
There is something so many of these posts are missing…grounded reality.
Ignoring what has been unfolding since March 2020 is deluded thinking. Just because it’s 1st January doesn’t mean you can just brush your experience away and start afresh.
This new year is unlike any other new year that you’ll have experienced. So if you look at these posts and feel a knot deep in your stomach and exhaustion that won’t go away…it’s not you. Be grounded in your reality but don’t let it define. It is simply your starting point, where you are right now with everything that’s going on in your life.
Please don’t jump on the deluded bandwagon…it takes you nowhere and just leaves you feeling worse than you felt before.
That doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to ensure you have a better year.
Think about it this way…
Every year for as long as I can remember I have set goals at the start of the year and created a plan to achieve them.
This year I haven’t. There are too many variables and too much uncertainty to navigate this year that I simply decided on how I want to show up in the world.
I zoomed in on the qualities I can concentrate on that will allow me to flow with what unfolds, quickly notice opportunities and be able to run with those opportunities in a way that’s beneficial to all involved.
Here are my qualities for 2021…
Presence
Openness
Allowing unfolding
Focus
I’ll check in with myself each day to see how I’ve applied them and if I need to tweak my list, I’ll do that.
How do you want to show up this year?
What qualities would allow you to show up as your best self this year as you navigate your personal and professional life?
You haven’t got to share them with anyone if you don’t want to. Or you may want to share if accountability helps you progress. Be sure to choose a supportive and compassionate buddy that will cheer you on, give you a little push when you need it and support you through challenging days with no judgement.
This approach is much more effective in achieving daily progress at times like these. You’ll find yourself much more motivated and upbeat…and will be in a better state of mind to grasp opportunities when they present themselves.
BTW…I have included some actual goals that my chosen qualities will help me achieve. One is finishing the first draft of my second book…so feel free to include any goals that excite and inspire you if you want to.
Remember…grounded optimism is so much more effective than delusional positivity!
Until next time,
Leigh 😊
