All Sales Leaders need to make time for self-reflection in order to learn from their experiences and continually develop their sales leadership skills.
How much time do you dedicate to your development?
Here are some questions for you to ponder…
How happy are you with the person you are right now…on a scale of 1-10?
What kind of person/leader would you like to be in 12 months?
What do you want your life to look like in 12 months?
These questions are simple though not easy to answer without reflection.
Your path to the answers may be slow, frustrating, upsetting, disappointing, enlightening, uplifting, exciting, all of them or none of them.
The reward is well worth the effort because your responses connect you with the gaps you have in your life, the impact your current role has on your life…and the impact your life has on your current role.
Once you have clarity around this you can make choices based on getting you to the place where you really want to be.
Remember that this can be a quick win or it may be a long game with multiple steps. It doesn’t matter how long it takes when you are moving toward a life that fulfils you.
Daily habits for leadership self development
Imagine waking up every morning inspired by what the day ahead will bring you.
Why doesn’t this happen more?
It’s my experience that people rarely reflect. There’s a belief that it’s a luxury that their calendars don’t allow for. So much easier to focus on getting things done and achieving that feelgood factor and a shot of dopamine.
We are traveling fast and do most things at speed so that we can fit more things in. It’s a bit like riding a wave…you’re skimming the surface and going the distance but you never get to see the beauty of the ocean beneath you.
So if the questions above are a bit of a stretch for you, here’s a daily habit to build your ability to answer the more challenging questions.
Take 5 minutes to reflect on these questions at the end of your day…
What happened today?
What would you do differently next time?
What did you do well and want to do more of?
Jot down any thoughts or actions that you want to capture and review. I’d suggest keeping a journal specifically for this purpose. If like me you use a Bullet Journal, you can add these at the end of each day or create a section specifically for them.
This 5 minute activity has the power to change your life and at the very least will help you to develop and grow in your work and personal life.
Within a short space of time you’ll be able to reflect on the bigger questions at the start of this blog and move your life in the direction of your choice.
Let me know how you get on.
Until next time,
Leigh 😊
